5 Habits For Clear Skin | Beauty & Acne Tips

Achieving and maintaining clear skin isn't difficult. Here are the 5 habits to keep your skin in tip-top condition:

Habit 1: No Skincare Shortcut
Is your skincare routine a one-step programme? If yes, you might want to consider adding steps into your routine.

Cleansing is essential, but so is toning and moisturizing. A toner helps to restore skin's natural pH level and cleanse off grime that has not been washed off by the cleanser. A moisturizer keep skin hydrated, preventing skin problems from arising. These three — cleanse, tone and moisturize, are the basic essential steps to keep skin clear and healthy.

If you have pimples, you might want to add another step (the 4th step) — spot or scar treatment. A spot treatment helps to dry up the zits and speed up the healing process, while a scar treatment speed up the fading of dark post acne mark/scar.

Habit 2: Be Diligent In Choosing Your Skincare Products
Avoid product that contains harsh chemicals. Always opt for gentle ones so that it will not irritate your skin. If you have acne-prone skin, choose product that is designed for troubled skin. Look for labels like non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic, as this means that the product is less likely to clog the pores and irritate skin.

Habit 3: Refresh Your Skin
To maintain a radiant and smooth complexion, regular exfoliation is a must as it clears away the dull and rough dead skin cells, unclogs the pores and helps to promote skin cell turnover. However, if you've had an acne outbreak, it's best to leave the scrubbing to after your pimples have healed. Otherwise, you risk aggravating the pimples, causing them to become more inflamed.

Habit 4: Watch Out Your Diet
As I've mentioned before in "Clear Acne From The Inside Out" and "5 Suspects Causing You To Breakout", oily, spicy, junk and/or dairy products may increase oil and hormone production, heat and toxic in the body, which can cause you to breakout. So be careful on what you eat. You might want to avoid foods that cause acne.

Habit 5: Appreciate Your Natural Beauty Without Makeup
It might seem unthinkable to leave the house without makeup, especially if you are having bad acne, because you need makeup to conceal the flaws to make you look and feel better. However, in order to get clear skin, it's very important to let your skin breathe as often as possible.

To all the acne sufferers out there, it's time to take a break from makeup and get comfortable in your own skin complexion. I know it's hard to feel confident with a face full of acne and hence, it's not easy to have the courage to leave the house without makeup. But for the sake of clear skin, learn to accept your flaws and love your natural beauty.

We all have imperfections — pimples, post acne marks/scars, freckles, enlarged pores, dark circles etc. Nobody has 100% perfect flawless skin. That said, you are not alone!

Side information — "My Personal Experience With Acne":
I was a moderate-severe acne sufferer for 3 years. (If you are interested, you can find the pictures of my acne/past skin condition in "My Acne Story" page.) Back then, I can't leave the house without makeup. Just like you, I needed makeup to conceal my hideous flaws in order to look and feel better. It took me some time to accept my flaws and garner the courage to leave the house without makeup. At the end of the day, I'm glad that I did the move.

Keep this in mind that letting your skin breathe is the best remedy for acne. Trust me, your skin will thank you for this move in the long run. :)

TIPS: If anyone express their thoughts on your complexion, just reply "thank you for your concern" with a smile, hold your head high and walk away or you can say in a soft but firm voice: "Thank you but I did not ask for your comments". People will feel awkward when you say this and you will see them draw back.

That's that. Follow these 5 habits today and start your journey to clear skin! I hope what I have shared helps you in some way. :)
